Oscars and Project Management

The entertainment business is, quite simply, a multi-billion-dollar business involving some of the world’s smartest, most creative people, creating products beloved (or ignored!) by virtually the entire population of the planet. And it is all built on a Project Management model. The teams that create the films, TV shows, music and live events that thrill the world are assembled for each project, and then move on to new enterprises.

At Robertson Taylor Partners (RTP for short), we are two professionals with decades of experience in this fragile, powerful industry, and we bring our successful application of Project Management principles to all of our clients. In tonight’s presentation, we’ll present several case studies demonstrating how the skills of project management help resolve vexing, inevitable challenges. Together in our partnership and individually in our respective careers previously, we have had the privilege of untying knots, solving riddles, overcoming hurdles and fixing leaks. It’s never been easy, but someone’s got to do it. Or, in our case, both of us.

Ric Robertson’s three-decades plus career at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, primarily leading day-to-day operations, means there aren’t many leadership, communications or management challenges he hasn’t faced and dealt with effectively. Respected by top figures – and the rank-and-file – in the entertainment business, Ric has insights that produce the desired results.

Jonathan Taylor had a 20+ year career in entertainment journalism, with senior positions at the LA Times, Variety and Deadline.com, followed by a successful PR career, including VP of Publicity and Corporate Communications at Starz Entertainment. He brings a strategic vision and skill for finding and creating opportunities in frequently unexpected ways.

In 2015, Ric Robertson and Jonathan Taylor formed Robertson Taylor Partners, a boutique consultancy that helps clients build or enhance their brand, win awards and rise above the churning tides of a fast-moving, uncertain business environment.
